199 miles, one story
Follow the route from Mt. Hood to the Pacific — every leg a part of how we got here.
Mile 0 · Mt. Hood
The start line.

It started with a long shot
A few sisters joked about entering the Hood to Coast lottery — a ~199-mile relay from Mt. Hood to the Oregon coast that is famously hard to get into, especially for a first-time team. We took the chance anyway. To our surprise, we were selected. What began as an idea became a commitment, and SOHBA Squad — a name that means companionship — was born.

Why we run
As Muslim women, we run for something deeper than a finish line. Too often our faith is portrayed as a limit. It is not — it is what empowers us to pursue health, support one another, and take on new challenges. Every mile is a chance to represent our faith with excellence, kindness, and perseverance, and to show that Muslim women are active, capable, and engaged members of our community.

The Jumu’ah Run
Our team trains every Tuesday evening and Friday morning. We chose Friday — Jumu’ah, the blessed day of congregational prayer — on purpose. The morning begins after Fajr with the sisters praying and reading the Qur’an at their homes then heading out together for our 6:30 a.m. “Jumu’ah Run.” Worship, sisterhood, and wellness, all before the day begins.

Our home for 24 hours
For the entire 24 hours of the race, our van is our home — the place we rest, refuel, and cheer each other on between legs. When rental vans sold out months in advance, Adventures Without Limit stepped in and sponsored one of ours. Fittingly, even our drivers are women, keeping the team supported and comfortable the whole way from Mt. Hood to the coast.

Doors kept opening
We reached out to organizations whose mission aligned with ours, and alhamdulillah, doors kept opening. HOKA sponsored our team with running shoes and gear. Cool Islam backed us as a community sponsor. Adventures Without Limit gave us a van. A sister even connected us with a family near Seaside who opened their home to us after the race. Every act of generosity reminded us what a community can do together.

No one gets left behind
Many of us were not runners when this began. Through long runs, early mornings, and even a night run to prepare for race conditions, we have surprised ourselves. But the real accomplishment is not the miles — it is each other. Whenever someone falls behind, we slow down, we encourage, we celebrate every milestone, and we cross the line together. That spirit is the heart of SOHBA Squad.

Every mile builds the masjid
This race is a fundraiser for the ICCH Mosque Expansion Project. When you sponsor our team, you are not just backing our runners — you are investing in a community, empowering Muslim women, and helping build a larger, stronger masjid that will serve our families for generations. Every mile we run brings us closer to the finish line, and to a stronger home for our community.
